Feed Management

Feed is usually a farm's largest recurring cost. Livestork tracks what was fed, when, and to which batch, then turns that into feed conversion ratio (FCR) benchmarks automatically.

The feed pages

Feed Management has five pages, all under Operations > Feed Management:

• Feed Overview — current feed allocations and plans across active batches.
• Feed Consumption — the log of feed actually fed, by batch and date.
• FCR Analytics — feed conversion ratio trends and benchmarking.
• Feed Catalog — the master list of feed types your organisation uses.
• Feed Wastage — spillage, contamination, and other feed losses, tracked separately from consumption.

Recording feed consumption

Feed consumption is most often logged as a Feeding entry on that day's Daily Operations Log, capturing the feed type, quantity, and the stock location it came from. Feed stock is deducted from inventory only once the Daily Log is approved, not the moment the entry is drafted, so a draft log can be corrected freely before it affects your stock levels.

How FCR is calculated

Feed Conversion Ratio is total feed consumed divided by total weight gain for a batch: FCR = Feed Consumed (kg) / Weight Gain (kg). Weight gain compares the batch's latest recorded average weight against its initial weight at the current headcount. FCR requires at least one weight record for the batch; without one, it shows as unavailable rather than a misleading estimate.

FCR Analytics is a plan-gated feature. If you don't see it in your navigation, contact your account administrator to confirm it's included in your plan.

Feed Catalog

The Feed Catalog is your organisation's master list of feed types (starter, grower, finisher, layer mash, and any custom formulations), each linked to an inventory item so consumption always ties back to a real stock balance.

Feed Wastage

Feed Wastage is tracked separately from consumption, so spillage or contamination doesn't distort your FCR figures. Wastage entries still reduce inventory, but are excluded from the feed-consumed side of the FCR calculation.
